Let's talk houses...and not the kind you build...

So when looking at that crazy pie chart, you see 12 slices. Those are houses. It starts to the left at the 9:00 mark (House 1) and works counter clock wise until you get to the 12th house. Each house is ruled by a sign, depending on your individual birth chart and where the Sun was rising at the time of your birth. You rising sign (or Ascendant) is always your first house and determines the placement of all other signs on your birth chart in their order (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces).

Funny enough, my personal rising sign is Aries. The first sign of the Zodiac. So it makes remembering my chart fairly easy. So fill your  chart in. What is your rising sign and number accordingly. We will break the individual houses down in depth much later in these lessons, but for now, here is a brief over view of each house. Each house represents a specific area of life.

1st House: House of self. Your appearance and image, self-identity, how you come across to others. Your core. 

2nd House: House of Value. What you value, cash, property and possession, how you value yourself. What is important to you.

3rd House: House of Communication. Siblings, neighbors, quick trips, early learning and education, how you communicate.

4th House: House of Family. Home and family, all things domestic, where you belong, your past.

5th House: House of Creativity/Pleasure. Romance, Creativity, Kids (your own or someone else), Pursuit of pleasure, love affairs. 

6th House: House of Health. Daily routines (including work), Your health, duties

7th House: House of Relationships. Your lovers, your spouse, your ex's (serious relationships not flings), open enemies, any sort of partner - business, cooperation, competition.

8th House: House of Taboo. Joint finances, credit cards, debts, sex, anything considered taboo. Inheritance, transformation. 

9th House: House of Knowledge/Travel. Study, travel, the Great Cosmic Quest, the internet, higher learning, religion, spirituality, dreams.

10th House: House of Career. Career and ambitions. How you make your mark on the world. What you are known for, your reputation.

11th House: House of Friendship. You friends, network, social circles, hopes and wishes.

12th House: House of Secrets. the deepest, darkest most sensitive part of your chart. You fears, your spirituality. Self-undoing, withdrawal, secret or hidden enemies.

Each house has a "natural sign" and "planetary ruler" but for now, go ahead and fill in your own birth chart and find what signs are in what houses for you. Take what you may know already from each sign and interpret what that may mean for you.

The deeper we get the more confusing but I promise at some point it starts to click and make sense. I told you, astrology is a language. It takes time.
